Bridging Communities 2011 Accepting Applications Now!

Sharing the love with Bridging Communities!

Hello Everyone!

Just one more week left till applications are due on Jan. 17th! Just in case, you haven’t heard of Bridging Communities, it is our high school leadership program that brings together Japanese Americans and American Muslim youth through interactive sessions that address identity, history, activism, and culture/religion. We will also be visiting a mosque, the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, and going on a one night two day trip to Manzanar to participate in service learning.

Along with CAIR (Greater Los Angeles Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations California) and NCRR (Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress), we recognize the parallels between the treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII and the treatment of American Muslims post 9/11. Not only will this program challenge you, it will also build the foundation for future solidarity between our two communities.

Here is our tentative schedule:

Session 1: Feb. 19 @ JACCC (Little Tokyo)

Session 2: March 5 @ North Orange County

Session 3: April 9 @ Little Tokyo

Session 4: April 30 – May 1 @ MANZANAR

Session 5: May 21 @ CAIR office in Anaheim

(Each session roughly lasts from 9:00am-5:00pm)
